I love where we live. Shailer Park – a leafy surburban area 30k south of Brissie with lots of lovely walking trails, good access to shops and all the major highways are merely minutes away.
One thing we’re missing in our suburb, and in lots of Logan suburbs, is walking distance anything. We would love to have a little neighbourhood restaurant, café, bar or bistro within strolling distance.
This is what we particularly miss about living in Carina – so close to the city, but so many great shops, cafes and restaurants within walking distance too!
A few weeks ago we ventured back to our old stomping ground to La Bomba – a café and tapas bar on Oateson Skyline Drive in Seven Hills. Back when we lived around the corner, La Bomba was a great little Genovese coffee stop on your way to anywhere. Nowadays, La Bomba has expanded and boasts an impressive food menu as well as the great coffee we remember.
Dylan and I were treated to a tasting plate of tapas and we couldn’t decide what we liked better. The pork belly with scallops on fennel slaw was an easy favourite, but it was the beef cheek special that really wowed us: this is the kind of food that would implore you to make it a weekly date night spot. Consistently delicious, varied and indulge me: a little bit sexy!
La Bomba has a woodfired pizza oven and they put it to great use. We shared a margarita pizza and it was just as we like it – thin base with that right amount of elasticity, bright tomato flavours and decadent mozzarella. We mentioned to owner and chef Chris at the time that we so often wish a margarita had ‘something extra’ on it; we are ‘more is more’ people. Not so with Chris’s margarita. This pizza manages to be simple but super flavourful at the same time. I loved the addition of fresh rocket – so peppery and fresh.
La Bomba is BYO and at the time we visited Chris was busy curating a wine list. We enjoyed two Stella Artois beers and there was a house white and red available as well. It was Thursday evening when we visited and one of my favourite bits of our experience was people watching a couple of old friends enjoy a bottle of red they’d brought while devouring a couple of Chris’s pizzas. I love the cosy vibe of being able to pop down to your local with a bottle of vino, enjoy some delicious food and toddle on home. Ahhh, the surburban dream. You folks of Seven Hills, Carina, Camp Hill, Cannon Hill, Morningside and Norman Park are lucky to have places like La Bomba right on your doorstep.
La Bomba is open every day but Monday, does a great café breakfast, woodfired pizzas all week, delightful tapas and has an inspired specials board. On Wednesday night pizzas are only $15 each, and Thursday nights you can nab 10 buffalo wings for $10! If you live nearby, you must check out this cosy local.
